A Spark of Interest
For some of the decision to go to university is a pretty simple one. Our parents went before us and we have long been encouraged by our teachers and families to pursue our dreams. However it is easy to forget that this decision is not so simple for us all. Many young Australians are bright, hard working and eager to learn but the opportunities either aren't available to them or they seem unattainable. This is where Spark comes in.
The Spark Engineering Camp
Spark Engineering Camp an initiative of Youth Without Borders offers a five day camp to high school students facing barriers to university. For many students this is their first time on a university campus and their first shot at understanding what tertiary study is all about. Our medium is engineering and through exciting activities, industry engagement and field trips we open up the possibilities of engineering study.
Perhaps the most important part of the program is the empowerment students feel after spending a week with like minded individuals and inspiring each other to realise their goals and potential. New friends are made and close bonds formed as we spend five intensive days together.
This year the camps are being run in Brisbane and Melbourne offering 100 bright students the chance to get a bit of Spark. Find out more on our website, sparkengineeringcamp.ywb.com.au.
