Nigel Carpenter, CEO, Australian Drilling Industry Association

New ADIA CEO, Nigel Carpenter, looks forward to welcoming all DRILL 2014 guests to the Gold Coast Convention Centre  in August. Nigel has a solid track record in NFP management. This is a chance for current and potential members to put a face to the name and learn more about the ADIA’s vision for the future.

AUSTRALIA’S RELIANCE ON CHINA
Huw McKay, Executive Director, Westpac

Huw McKay, Executive Director and Senior International Economist, joined Westpac’s Economic Research team in the year 2000. Huw manages the bank’s world growth and foreign exchange forecasting processes. A recent Bloomberg study showed Westpac’s overall currency forecasts were the world’s most accurate in 2012; while the Westpac Economics team is repeatedly ranked number one in surveys of local companies that assess the relative quality of foreign exchange and fixed income research. At DRILL 2012, Huw also spoke about the relationship between Australia and China; his presentation available on the ADIA website.

 

Ken Hoots, Vice President Senior, Products – Corporate, Boart Longyear
Ken Hoots was appointed Senior Vice President of Global Products in January 2013 in addition to his responsibilities of Global Supply Chain and IT, which he took over in July of 2012. He joined Boart Longyear in April 2007 as Vice President – Asia Pacific located in Adelaide, Australia. Before joining Boart Longyear, Mr Hoots was employed by General Electric for over twenty years where he held various positions of increasing responsibility in both the Aviation and Energy divisions.

DRILLING THE ECONOMY INTO PROSPERITY
Professor Ian Plimer, Non-Executive Director, Hancock Prospecting

Professor Ian Plimer BSc (Hons), PhD, FTSE, FGS, FAIMM is Emeritus Professor at The University of Melbourne where he was Professor and Head (1991-2005).  He currently serves as an independent non-executive director on the boards of listed companies Silver City Minerals Ltd, Niuminco Group Ltd, Kefi Minerals plc and unlisted Hancock Prospecting Pty Ltd companies (Roy Hill Holdings, Hope Downs, Queensland Coal Investments). He represents Hancock Prospecting on the Lakes Oil N.L. and Sun Resources N.L. Boards. Resources Ltd, Ivanhoe Australia Ltd, Kimberley Metals Ltd and Ormil Energy Ltd. Professor Plimer has published more than 130 scientific papers and is author of multiple best-selling books for the general public.

Glenn Porter, CEO, Energy Skills Queensland

Glenn Porter is the Chief Executive Officer of Energy Skills Queensland which is an industry body established to assist the energy industry to understand its future skill needs and develop appropriate workforce strategies to attract, retain and develop skills to meet these identified future needs.  Glenn has over twenty years’ experience in the employment, education and training industry having worked as a senior executive in both the public and private sectors across Victoria, South Australia and Queensland.

RISK, HUMAN ERROR AND STATUTORY REGULATIONS
John Tate, Barrister

Since 1996, John Tate has acted as Counsel Assisting in both Mining Warden’s and Coronial inquiries in virtually all Queensland mining, petroleum and explosives fatalities. Additionally, he has been retained in a range of other fatality inquiries where the primary issue has concerned hospital misadventure, aircraft failure, fatigue, or the suspicion of murder. To this point, John has acted as Counsel Assisting in over 90 public fatality inquiries. For many years, John’s interests and experience have focused on the critical review of safety and health management and training systems, on accident investigation methodologies, and on compliance issues. Reflecting this, he is frequently engaged as a speaker in public forums and conferences.

Ulrich Schoepf : Deputy Sales Director, Bauer Deep Drilling
Ulrich Schoepf joined Baeur in 2005 and has occupied a variety of roles:

  • Project Manager for Cut-off Wall at Diavik Diamond Mine, Canada
  • Operations Manager for Mining and Exploration in Africa (based in South Africa)
  • Project Manager Bauer Deep Drilling for Oil, Gas & Energy
  • Deputy Sales Director at Bauer Deep Drilling (Oil, Gas & Energy)
